Why choose us

What a small, honest workshop offers that a large one cannot.

The advantages of working with Wela Atelier are not about volume or speed. They are about knowing exactly who is touching your watch, and why every decision was made.

Back to Home

At a glance

Six things that set our approach apart.

Single-craftsperson accountability

One watchmaker handles your piece from intake to return. There is no handoff, no anonymous bench, no lost context.

Fixed, published pricing

Each service has a stated price. Additions — when needed — are communicated for approval. The number on our page is the number you pay.

Written service documentation

Overhauls come with a service record that travels with the watch — useful for insurance, future servicing, and establishing provenance.

Follow-up timing review

Mechanical movements are reviewed after wear-in. If rate has drifted outside expected range, a correction is made without further charge.

Plain-language guidance

We describe what is happening with the movement in terms that do not require a technical background to understand. Questions are welcome.

Work completed on the premises

Nothing is shipped away. Servicing happens at our Chiang Mai studio — you know where your piece is throughout the process.

In depth

Each benefit, explained.

Expertise and depth of experience

The head watchmaker at Wela Atelier has worked with mechanical and quartz movements for over fifteen years. This includes training in Switzerland and sustained practice in Chiang Mai across a wide range of calibres and brands.

Experience with a variety of movements — from simple three-hand quartz to complex automatic calibres — means fewer surprises and a more accurate assessment of what a piece actually needs.

What this means for your watch:

  • Calibre-appropriate lubrication grades selected
  • Worn parts identified accurately and replaced only when necessary
  • Movement reassembled with the patience the tolerances require

The equipment in regular use:

  • Ultrasonic cleaning bath for movement parts
  • Multi-position timing machine (Timegrapher)
  • Regulated watchmaker's bench with proper lighting
  • Calibrated digital calipers for gasket measurement

Proper tooling and equipment

Watch servicing done with inadequate tools produces mediocre results regardless of the watchmaker's skill. At Wela Atelier, the tooling is appropriate to the work: ultrasonic cleaning, timing measurement, and a bench that does not introduce vibration into the regulation process.

The investment in correct equipment is not visible to the owner, but it is present in the result.

A service built around the owner

The conversation begins before the watch arrives on the bench. Owners describe what they have noticed; we ask questions and explain what we expect to find. This reduces surprises and ensures that the work carried out is the work the owner actually wanted.

After completion, the watch is returned with notes on what was done — not simply handed back in a bag. If something unusual was found during the service, we explain it in plain terms.

How the process feels:

  • Initial enquiry by phone, email, or in person — all welcome
  • Scope and cost confirmed before work begins
  • Updates provided if findings change during the service
  • Questions answered at collection without time pressure

What transparent pricing includes:

  • Labour and standard consumables (oil, cleaning solution)
  • Post-service timing measurement
  • Written service record (overhauls)
  • Follow-up timing check (overhauls)

Value and transparent pricing

Prices for all three services are published and fixed. There are no assessment fees, no diagnostic charges, and no charges for providing an estimate. If additional parts are needed — a worn mainspring, a cracked crystal found during disassembly — this is communicated for approval before the part is sourced.

The aim is for the final invoice to match the figure discussed at the outset.

What only we offer

Distinctive elements of the Wela Atelier service.

The ledger entry

Every piece that comes in is entered in our workshop log with a description of its condition on arrival. This entry becomes the basis of the service record returned with the watch. It is a small thing, but it is the kind of care that changes how an owner thinks about the watch in years to come.

Condition commentary before and after

At intake, we note what we observe — how the crown feels, whether the case shows wear that may affect servicing, how the movement sounds when wound. After servicing, we describe what changed. This builds a record that has real value over time.

The wear-in review for overhauls

After a complete mechanical overhaul, the movement needs several weeks of normal wear before timing stabilises. We ask owners to return with the watch — by appointment or by post — so a final measurement can be taken and regulation adjusted if needed. No other charge is made for this visit.

An honest conversation about what to skip

When a less expensive service will achieve the same outcome as a full overhaul, we say so. If a bracelet requires only a single spring-bar rather than a full sizing, we carry out only that. The goal is to serve the owner well, not to service the watch maximally.
